Born and raised in central Texas, Devin has been studying guitar and piano for the past 20 years. At age 19, he moved to Nashville for a short period, then finished up his master’s degree at Texas State University. Devin has performed on 6th Street in Austin, TX several times and he enjoys practicing and teaching guitar on a daily basis.
Devin started out his guitar career learning classic rock and blues guitar riffs on an old Stratocaster and it wasn’t long before he discovered his passion for playing country music. “When I first got into country music, one of my favorite artists was Brad Paisley. I just remember hearing his guitar solos and being blown away by his creativity and speed on the guitar,” says Devin.
Later in college, Devin found himself playing acoustic guitar a lot more than his electric because it was much easier to play while living in college housing. Eventually, Devin’s desire to play country lead guitar combined with his regular acoustic guitar practice led to his discovery of bluegrass. In Devin’s opinion, “Bluegrass guitar is basically country style lead guitar licks played on an acoustic guitar in a very fast-paced and dynamic way. There’s so much to learn when it comes to bluegrass and it never gets old!”
Today, Devin’s goal is to share his passion for guitar with pickers of all skill levels through weekly guitar lesson videos hosted on Flat Top Licks and YouTube. Be sure to register and subscribe so you don’t miss his latest lesson updates!
